A Misadventure, or Why Does Lindsey Have All the Fun?

Yesterday after school Lindsey, who is a very good girl, was cleaning the bathroom. Somehow the can of powdered toilet-bowl cleaner popped open and exploded everywhere. I was working in the kitchen when I heard a scream from the bathroom. When I got there, two seconds later, there was a cloud of toilet-cleaner dust in the air, granules everywhere and Lindsey was coughing and saying her eye burned. Oh no!

I got her started rinsing her eyes and then hurried to call Poison Control. They said to have her hop in the shower and let the water hit the top of her head and run down the front of her face, while she blinked her eyes for 15 minutes. They said the steam from the shower should also help with the coughing. When they knew that Lindsey was following the instructions, they said they'd call me back in an hour—which they did. Since she seemed to be doing OK, they said to keep an eye on her eyes, and call a doctor if they didn't keep getting better, or if they got worse.

Lindsey's eyes were a little red for the rest of the evening; the coughing stopped, but she felt like she could taste cleaner for most of the night. By the time she went to bed her eye wasn't hurting, but it was gooping up—like when you have an eye infection. Poor Lindsey!

So we'll see how she looks this morning. Hopefully better. But I might just take her to the dr. anyway. What do you think?

She seems to be OK, although her eye is a little irritated today.
And we really didn't know what to do—thank goodness for Poison Control. 1-800-222-1222 It's a number to know.

You know, I am a wait and see gal, but with eyes, I don't mess around. You might want to have them looked at just to be safe. Poor kid! Glad she is OK!
